APEX in Action is the name for the Community Service part of our organization. Come and join us as we take Action to make a difference in our community.

This year we will be hosting a teddy bear/stuffed animal drive (new stuffed animals preferred due to health risks) to support the Bear-the-Burden project for Buckner Children and Family Services. They provide each child with his or her very own stuffed toy, such as a Teddy Bear, that they can hold on to. For those of you looking for a fun way to support this project, come and join us as we "build" our own bears at the Build-A-Bear Workshop at Northpark Mall. You can pick a bear, add a heart or musical sound and even pick out an outfit to dress your bear. Party favors will be included for each bear. Prices of bears start at $10 each. All donated stuffed animals will be dropped off our APEX Holiday Party at Glounge later the same day. Check out this website for some more information on bear selections and accessories: www.buildabear.com.

It happens 137 times a day, six times every hour a child in Texas is abused or neglected. Each year, nearly 50,000 children are abused or neglected in Texas. Another 200,000 cases are reported but go unconfirmed. They are children whose innocence is torn from them. And when it happens, they lose not only their childhood, but often, they lose their homes. Many of these children go to live in residential care, such as a children's home. Often, they are placed into a foster home. But regardless of where they go, they suffer separation from the only family they know. Check out this website for more information: www.beartheburden.org.

It's the holiday season and a time to give, so here's another opportunity to give some of your time. There are many children who may not be able to join their families at home this Christmas due to some illness. Please come and join us as we try and bring some cheer to the children at Children's Medical Center. We will paint, glitter and glue crafts with the kids in the hospital's playrooms from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on Saturday, December 16th. We are looking for 8-10 volunteers for this project. Contact Stephanie to sign up.

Another way to help is by donating an unwrapped toy. They are in need of toys for infants/toddlers and also teenagers. (They already have some for 3-12 year olds) Below are lists of appropriate toys (new items preferred due to health risks). Toys may be dropped off at any of our events. We will be dropping off any toy donations on December 16th. The hospital will wrap and distribute the toys on Christmas.
