06/20/08 APEX In Action: Computer Rehabilitation for the Heart House

Response Deadline: Friday, June 20, 2008

Date: TBD
Time: TBD
Location: Heart House at Stratford Hill - 6731 Larmanda Dallas, Texas 75231
Contact: Mark, mark@linsquared.com

APEX In Action is the name for the Community Service part of our organization. Come and join us as we take Action to make a difference in our community.

Got some old computer equipment that you don't need anymore? APEX wants to take it off your hands to help the Heart House afterschool program with their computer lab. Right now, all they've got is a "hodge podge" of equipment where only 4 computers work semi-reliably, so what we want to do is to bring together some APEX'rs and see if we can improve their situation, so the kids have some better technology to use.

You can help by:
* donating equipment and/or
* helping to build the composite computers from the donated equipment

The plan is to hold the event at the Heart House at Stratford Hill where we will build the computers for the Heart House. You can swing by to drop off your donation and/or hang around to help us build. It's an excellent opportunity to meet people, make a difference, and learn a bit about computers too.

If you're interested, please contact me by June 20, 2008 and indicate whether you'd like to donate, or help build, or both. If you want to donate, please provide a list of what you have available to donate, so that we'll have an idea of what we have to work with.

Here's the Heart House Technology Wish List:

Preferred minimum computer requirements:
* Memory: 512 MB RAM
* Processor: Pentium III

* Windows XP software and licenses
* Microsoft Office software and licenses
* Newer monitors (flat panels or newer CRT monitors)
* mice
* printers
* spare parts for the computer - memory, power supplies, etc.

Anything we don't use will be "e-recycled," which means that parts of it will be reused and the rest will be safely and securely disposed of. This way, we also do our part for the environment.

Heart House Dallas is a free afterschool program dedicated to providing a safe haven and academic support to children of low-income families in the densely-populated Vickery Meadow community in Dallas, Texas. To learn more, visit www.hearthousedallas.org.
